One of the shows I was eager to check out was a performance of UK’s recent revelation Gappy Ranks. His album “Put the Stereo One” released in 2010 was based on a baffling yet refreshing idea: damn good autotune-processed singjay laid upon reworked classical riddims dating to the golden era of Jamaican roots and rocksteady. Not only this impossible combination worked, but also gained Gappy nomination to BBC’s renowned MOBO Awards (alongside Damian Marley and Vybz Kartel).
