02 Jul 2011 : Barrington Levy at Summerjam Festival 2011
02 Jul 2011
Among the legends of Jamaican music Barrington Levy holds a special place. His deejaying skills are unmatched since the eighties and Summerjam’s audience had a chance to rock to the parade of artist’s greatest hits - “My Woman”, “Here I Come”, “Black Roses” or “Murderer”.

02 Jul 2011 : Romain Virgo at Summerjam Festival 2011

Barely at his twenty-one, Virgo is already an established name in the young generation of Jamaican singers. It can’t be any different if you win the Rising Stars contest at seventeen, securing contract with the legendary Greensleeves label. When Penthouse released the “Mi Caan Sleep” tune a couple of months later, Virgo was immediately dubbed the hottest new voice to emerge from Jamaica.

11 Jul 2011 : Busy Signal at Summerjam Festival 2011

It’s not common to secure artist’s position in the dancehall pantheon with just three released albums - but It worked for Busy Signal. His show at Summerjam was a top notch musical experience. To my great astonishment, Busy started his show with raggamuffin or even modern roots tunes and was turning up the tempo with each minute of the show. As long as dancehall is represented by artists like Busy Signal or Mr Vegas, it’s not gonna perish, that’s for sure.

02 Jul 2011 : The Congos at Summerjam Festival 2011

If there was an underrepresented genre at this year’s Summerjam, it must have been the artists from the classic roots period. While they’re not getting younger, you can still find some greats acts to please the foundation-loving fans out there and Congos turned out to be one of those.

02 Jul 2011 : Alpha Blondy at Summerjam Festival 2011

What a joy it is to feel the first bass punches of a reggae classic “Jerusalem” live after so many years! Ever since I got involved in reggae music, I considered Alpha Blondy’s music one of the pillars of the entire genre. While some of his studio works might sound a tad too soft for vintage roots worshiper like myself, the Summerjam performance felt just like a heavy-roller running you over.
