W Tatrach / Of Light and Shadow

"W Tatrach / Of Light and Shadow" is a story about a chance encounter with Poland's highest mountains. It tells how one can visit Zakopane for a week, and serendipitously stay for over a year in an old wooden villa beneath the Giewont peak.

The series grew at its own pace. Nothing was planned — my mountain trips never are. I didn't track sunrise or sunset times. I avoided the clichéd postcard views, focusing on what's outside the frame, hiding in the shadows. A notebook of walks and climbs — what really happened and what could have.

I follow the light, the changing seasons, and my own imagination, gathering and recording them. Sometimes it will be darkness and silence, other times the roar of a waterfall. I photograph with tenderness and presence, the way you step onto a fragile rock foothold.

The exhibition was first presented at the Opole Mountain Festival 2023.
