"Wyrwać z korzeniami / By the Roots" is a project about memory that doesn't belong to us alone. A walk through a familiar neighbourhood at night, the cold touch of spectres from the past raises questions: about what we're allowed to remember, and what must be forgotten.

My father once told me I had invented an unhappy childhood. There is only one truth—and if you disagree, you're on your own. A few years ago, I moved back to the neighbourhood where I grew up and began to explore traces and memories on my own.

One day, I found a torn notebook in the grass - a boy's handwriting. I don't know who he was, or what was on the missing pages. I fill in what I remember and what wasn't there, reconstructing one possible—or imagined—version of this story.
